Sometimes it takes a little longer than you'd like to get something going. But it's all good. All the time and effort it takes to do whatever you need to do is well worth it.
Coming Soon: Bali Batiks
After months of designing, planning, and preparation, we are excited to announce our upcoming collection of original batik apparel, launching mid/late-August.
Designed by yours truly and handmade in Bali, Indonesia, our ocean life inspired prints and styles are perfect to pack for your next trip to the ocean, or wear wherever you are.
From left to right below: a sneak peak of our first four original batik prints; Urchin, Great White, Coral, and Ridley.
What is Batik?
Batik is an ancient traditional printing method that originated in Java, Indonesia. Originating from Javanese, "tik" or "to dot," batik uses wax stamps to layer patterns into the print during the dying process.
Stamps are handmade out of copper, the design of which is one of the first steps in creating any custom batik design.
5 for Life Partner Update
In concert with the Bali Batik launch we will also be supporting new 5 for Life partners; ocean conservation organisations to whom we 'pay it forward' and give 5% of net sales.
While KOV is proud to support the work of the organisations below, it is not directly affiliated with them or any of their programs, projects, or websites.
We have been supporting Bali Sharks since the beginning. With the Bali Batik launch we will continue to support them through sales of Great Whites. Bali Sharks has done amazing work saving sharks from finning operations and by catch, nursing them to a healthy size and releasing them in protected waters of the Indonesia archipelago.
We will be giving 5% of net sales of all Corals and Urchins to the Coral Reef Alliance. Working with people around the world—from fishermen to government leaders, divers to scientists—the Coral Reef Alliance leads holistic conservation programs that improve coral reef health and resilience and have a direct impact in Hawaii, Indonesia, Fiji, and beyond.
We will be giving 5% of net sales of all Ridleys to the Sea Turtle Foundation. Based in North Queensland, Australia, they work to protect sea turtles through research, education and action. They actively rescue stranded turtles, train others to respond to strandings, provide educational programs, and support research into turtle health and ecology throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
5% of net sales from other products will be divided equally among each of the above partners.
We hope when people ask our customers about their KOV gear, a bigger conversation starts about ocean conservation and what we’re all doing to JOIN THE MOVEMENT.
Back to Bali...
We'll be on the island the first week of August to visit with our suppliers and shoot the new collection in-situ.
